An Intimate Treat: “Sip and Savor” at Club Punta Fuego

by May 25, 2013Hearty Living, Photos, Travel Notes

Clouds began to darken and huge rain drops started to pour down as my lovely roomies for the night, supermodel/ jewelry designer Ms. Girlie Benitez, Landco’s Mrs. Mawi de Ocampo, and I, together with Kuya Bonggit (our driver for the day) bravely traveled through Tagaytay City. (Is summer fading away? I will surely miss the sun and heat as rainy season is obviously just around the corner.)

A couple of hours drive more to Nasugbu, Batangas and I started praying for some rays of sunshine to come our way.  We needed a stream of natural light to capture the special menu that Club Punta Fuego’s former Executive Chef and now General Manager, Mikel Arriet Arruiz prepared for an intimate food and wine pairing event that evening.

As we began to escalade the road to the peninsula of Club Punta Fuego, it was like God partitioned the sky above Nasugbu to bring forth some beautiful light at our destination. Literally, it was like the light stayed at the peninsula of Punta Fuego while the rest of the skies were grey. It was a blessing to my sight.

In addition to this wonderful blessing of sunshine, I realized how I’ve been extremely favored to have opportunities to taste different culinary treats. I used to watch a lot of food and lifestyle shows and as I drooled over the creativity and passion of some of the world’s renowned celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Mario Batali, Jamie Oliver, and the beautiful Giada De Laurentiis, I would picture myself as one of their guests at their homes or shows, tasting their delicious masterpieces.

Last May 20, 2013, I had another opportunity to “Sip and Savor” that dream as I “Shoot and Taste” the specially prepared food and Spanish wine menu by Club Punta Fuego in partnership with Wine Depot. It was gastronomically exciting!

Wine Depot prepared a couple of Spanish white and red wines from Rioja region to complete the special dinner menu.

The impressive view of Club Punta Fuego served as our backdrop as the sun began to set.

Club Punta Fuego’s members and guests enjoyed an intimate evening as they “Sip and Savor” delectable Spanish wines and culinary treats.

The special dishes for the “Sip and Savor” food and wine pairing event. I added stars to my personal favorites.

San Diego Restaurant of Club Punta Fuego

Black Shrimp Balls in Alioli ☆☆☆☆☆ (Weird looking but good tasting.)

Grilled Scallops in Cauliflower Cream with hints of Truffle ☆☆☆ (I like the simplicity of this dish.)

Aperitifs paired with CANDIDATO Blanco, a white wine sourced from the Viura grape from La Mancha. This wine has a balanced aroma of orange blossoms and jasmine.

Cream of Chickpeas with Chorizo Ravioli, Ox Tail Envelope, and Blood Sausage from Asturias ☆☆☆ (I like the balance on this one, cleverly paired ingredients with the chickpeas cream. Wait, really I ate blood?!)

Starters paired with VINA BUJANDA VIURA, a white wine that impacts the palate initially with a friendly freshness; the freshness that lingers in the aftertaste.

Fish Course:

Pan Fried Tuna Supreme with Oven Roast Onion and Bacon Sauce and Arugula Bouquet ☆☆☆☆ (4 stars for the fresh baby arugula and my favorite cherry tomatoes! The tuna steak which was quite heavy was complemented by the light bouquet of fresh arugula from Santis and cherry tomatoes from Tagaytay.)

Fish course paired with Cosecheros Y Criandores “INFINITUS” Tempranillo, very Spanish palate with notes of vanilla oak.

Meat Dish:

Pork Tenderloin in Old Mustard Escabeche, Apple Sweet and Sour Tartlets, Celery Puree, and Green Asparagus ☆☆☆☆☆ (Winning dish! Beautifully cooked pork tenderloin. I dipped slices of my pork in the puree while taking some bites from the tartlets to complement the taste of the fresh sea salt. I was satisfied.)

The meat dish paired with Finca Valpiedra “CANTOS DE VALPIEDRA” Tempranillo, a powerful Rioja red with greater character and body with hints of minerals and wood.

Torrija with Brandy, Pear Compote, and Vanilla Ice Cream ☆☆☆ (A light yet divine end to savor – french toast plus.)

Inspiring backdrop of nature, good company, favorable weather (except for some “wind-less” times), excellent wine and food pairing, photography, and chill. It’s love, love, love, and blessings combined.

Cheers to a hearty life and to more exciting gastronomy experiences!

Think and pray BIG.

“Sip and Savor” was just a foretaste of the fine dining experiences in store for Club Punta Fuego’s members and guests. Wine Depot will provide different wines from around the world every month as its featured wine of the month until December. Other wine tasting and food pairing events will be held in August and November.
