For the past 8 months, my “social life” every Saturday evening takes place at the booth of Energy FM for Money Talks. Instead of booze, chips, weekend conversations, parties, and other social staples, my view would be the black and blue walls of our booth, a microphone in front of me, and a DJ headphones on my ear. I would also have my lukewarm water and “kodigo” (cheat sheet) on the side (just to make sure I have something to clear my throat and I won’t forget any notes for the show).

Money Talks main host Randell Tiongson, co-host Jm dela Rama, main proxy host Marvin Germo, and our suking tech guy Kuya Rolito.
We started the show mid-July last 2013 that aired live every 9-11 in the evening. Because of our time slot, we would jokingly say that like us, it’s either our listeners doesn’t have a social life or the show itself is their “tugz-tugz” (clubbing tune, yeah). In the first few months of the show, the main host and I would play danceable songs. And I was surprised that the main host knows more modern and danceable hits than I do. He’s a father of 4 kids (2 are already adults) but still he stays cool! Each week, I would always tell him to put on Bruno Mars’ “Treasure”, the only track I enjoyed those days until we started our OPM Saturdays.
Money Talks started when Mr. Randell Tiongson (Mr. No Non Sense) who’s been conducting talks all around the Philippines and outside our country on finances, came up with an idea to bring financial literacy to more people. Hence, the radio show. Energy FM opened their doors to this idea and gave us the opportunity to reach more Filipinos, especially to our dear countrymen who needs to hear that there is a thing called financial freedom for one and all (not just for those who are already rich). And that, it is something doable. The show gave hope, wisdom, and knowledge not just to a specific group of people but generally to ALL Filipinos (from all walks of life) who desire to be financially free.
The show itself is a blessing not just to our listeners here and abroad, but most especially, to myself. Living on my own for the first time since 2012 was a challenging financial journey for me. It was like starting from zero to none. It was oxymoronic that God would open a door for me, someone who is also financially challenged to co-host a financial radio show. But, He did. And all my concerns that time – ride, finances, safety, even my confidence to do the show, He provided and delivered for a way. Friends started to volunteer to drive me to the show and even accompany me even until the wee hours for some midnight snack or super late dinner. I had my nights when I’ll get a cab too and rush to the shows. And there were times when my boys (family) would give me a ride to and fro. Such a blessing, such was the opportunity and provision that God gives once He opens a door.

With Money Talks’ hosts, guests (Mr. Jayson & Kat Lo, Boris Joaquin, Pastor Dennis Sy, Yeng Remulla, amogst the others) families, and friends. Thank you guys! That was FUN!
Months after months of airing, we eventually gained a good number (for a financial radio show of less than a year on an FM station) of listeners and followers. And every week we are inspired and encouraged to receive messages of support and even requests for the show to be extended to more hours and even to air for an extra day in a week.
The show was doing well and I was even looking forward to celebrate our first year. But I guess some things need to change. This morning, I was a bit surprised to receive a message from Kuya Randell that says that Energy reformatted and that Money Talks will have its last 3 shows until April 12 (a week after my birthday). I was surprised, a tad saddened, but I was also at peace and excited to see what God will do next. 🙂
Sooner or later, we have to say farewell to a number of things here on earth. But, instead of goodbyes, I am looking forward to new hellos in the future. I am sure that this is not the end for Money Talks. As it started its purpose, we know that whether or not we will have another Money Talks show (either on the radio or TV – naks, dreaming!), Money Talks shall echo and continue in the lives and hearts of the people that it touched, including myself.

(*Thanks to our guests Marilen Faustino-Montenegro, Mr. Chinkee Tan, and many more!) Behind the scenes. Look at how Marvin Germo answers your questions whenever he visits Money Talks. Very cool lang!
To all our listeners around the Philippines and to our dear modern day heroes, our OFWs – thank you so much for making Money Talks your social life and “tugz-tugz” every Saturday evening. We will surely miss you guys! May you all continue the journey to financial wellness and freedom! We are looking forward to stories of transformed lives and even for a better Philippines in the near future. Let’s do this! (Special thanks to our listeners who really tries to stay up late and wait for our show – you guys are the best! And to all the funny “pick-up” lines as well!)
To all our guests and our suking co-host Marvin Germo (Mr. Stocksmarts) and Jayson Lo (Mr. Younique), thank you so much for extending your wisdom, knowledge, experience, time, and expertise to us and our listeners. You have sown good seeds in the lives of our countrymen and in the future of our nation. Thank you for being my life and financial coaches (and for the occasional banters about my flourishing love life)! May you be blessed with more opportunities to be blessed. Continue to be a vessel of hope to many.
And to Kuya King of Kaching, Randell Tiongson, I’m so blessed to have been given this chance, a great opportunity not just to co-host with you but also to learn from the crème de la crème of the industry of finance. Your “No Non Sense Personal Finance” guide will always be in my heart. 😉 Ha ha, I will memorize them and take them to heart. And I will continue my journey to reach my financial goals. I will also miss your epic “never-heard-this-before” classic OPM songs! Kuya Randell, your heart to teach and reach our fellow Filipinos is truly admirable! May our good Lord even exceed your sphere of influence and the barn of blessings that he has for you and your family. Thank you my big bro and friend!

(*Thank you to Mr. Gus Cosio, Marvin & Yvonne Germo, Leigh de Armas, Ardy Roberto & Miriam Quiambao-Roberto, Paulo Tibig, Rose Fausto, and friends.) The first few episodes that we had on the show! (Sorry, I only got to gather the photos that I had on my phone. If you’re not in the picture, don’t think that you’re forgotten). 🙂
Thank you Money Talks! 🙂 Cheers to three more shows! Let’s make them memorable.

To the One who gives opportunities and open great doors – thank You Lord for such wonderful experiences that are beyond my dreams and imagination. Looking forward to new doors in Your sweet time! Thank you for putting me in such a position of learning and exposure amidst my own life journey’s twists and turns. 🙂

2013 was a very good year for a naturally shy lady like me. It’s been a year of healing, new experiences, and opportunities. One of my first hosting work last year was with Mr. Randell Tiongson (my 1st time to work with him) for the event of Israel Chamber of Commerce Philippines. Since then, God opened doors of opportunities for me to take pleasure and learn to host different cultural events. I’m grateful. Looking forward to new things ahead!

What about you? What are the changes that are happening in your life now? Will you take them as a mental stop to your dreams or a start to reaching your goals?
Yesterday’s preaching by Pastor Carlos Antonio was very timely. When Jesus gives you a breakthrough (healing or other progress) – are you ready for the change?
I know how it feels letting go of something you’ve been used to, especially the things that you love doing the most. Money Talks have served its purpose and a lot of people know that. God will surely bring back Money Talks soon, if not too soon. Why, we can do a live online radio show very soon! Kahit maghapon pa tayo mag-broadcast! 😀 Glad to have been part of Money Talks PH. More power to you and to the King of Kaching!
Haha! Thank you so much Kuya Burn! Thanks for being a part of the show and for being an instrument to teach our fellow Filipinos about financial wellness as well. 🙂 Let’s continue the journey! I’m looking forward to new and bigger things ahead!
