With the inspiring writer, speaker, entrepreneur, and family man, Sean Si.
We all aspire to become someone who can leave a lasting impact on people. And I believe I just met one when I was invited to be one of the speakers at the 2nd Young Business Leader Conference last July 27, 2019.
I know that God had a plan why I made it there even just a few weeks after recovering from sacroiliac joint dysfunction. My instinct didn’t fail me as I didn’t only meet people like Tommy Ng but I was also blessed to meet my co-speaker that time who really left me inspired and encouraged during our short chat about work and life.
His name is Sean Si, whom I first heard from one of the ICON events of Kuya Randell Tiongson. I was amazed as I hear him speak about his experience and how he was able to accomplish so much even as a young man in spite of the hurdles in his life.
With the same inspiration and encouragement that he gave me, I’d also like to extend these to you through this Q&A with him. I hope that this will also leave you not just inspired and encouraged, but most importantly changed as you continue to pursue your life’s vision and dreams.
“Sean, you’re one of the youngest and most prolific writer, speaker, entrepreneur, and family man that I know. How are you managing your time while finding balance in everything that you need to do and accomplish?”
First, I pray. I ask God to give me wisdom on what things to say yes to and what things to say no to. Then I make sure to say no to the things that will not improve my life or take me closer to my goals.
Next, I make sure to surround myself with leaders whom I can delegate to. I make sure my people develop their leadership skills so that I can entrust them with the tasks that I delegate to them. This allows me to free up more of my time to work on other things and work on my strengths.
It may seem as if I’m doing a lot to the onlooker, but in reality, I’m only doing the things I know I’m good and efficient at, and I delegate the other things to competent people I trust.

“What kind of passion or hobbies do you have that not everyone knows about? Is there anything that you do for fun in between your busy schedule? (Surprise us.)”
I play computer games but everyone knows that. What a lot of people don’t know is that I enjoy combat sports. Knife fighting in particular. I have trained over 2 years with some of the most knowledgeable teachers in the Philippines and I enjoyed that thoroughly.
“That’s so cool! I don’t meet a lot of people who are into knife fighting. I’m sure your wife and kids feel safe with you, while others should be very cautious, haha!”

“As someone who successfully started young as an entrepreneur and family man, what were the fears that you had before starting them and how were you able to overcome these?”
It’s weird that I can’t really state specific fears in starting out. I think the fears came in more when the problems started coming in. But when I was starting out, I felt more excited than ever.
Some of the fears that crept in was during my first few years in business when clients failed to pay and I would wonder where I would get the money to pay my team. It’s okay for me not to get paid but it is dishonorable for me not to pay my people.
During those times, I would go to my inner room, kneel down and pray. And miraculously, God will make a way for me to suddenly close a contract in a span of a couple of days and get paid immediately with the amount needed to pay my team.
As for my marriage, the fear went out when God told me without a doubt, that Apple would be the girl I will actually marry and spend the rest of my life with. I asked God for an impossible sign and He gave it.
Confusion set in when I got rejected though. Quite badly.
But God made a way to put us back together. And now we have 2 boys whom we love very much.
“What a great love story of hope and God’s divine intervention. Maybe you and Apple can write a book about it too someday.” 🙂

“Do you think anything in your childhood (how you were raised by your parents) contributed well with your present success? What advise can you share to encourage others who had a challenging upbringing and who’s having some challenges in succeeding in life?”
Yes. I was taught about grit and hard work early on in life. Nothing in life worth doing is easy.
Entitlement was never something that I practiced. I always thought lowly of myself and expected nothing from everyone and everything.
My family is not perfect. My parents had their flaws. My dad was mostly absent when I was growing up and my mom was hot-tempered. I would often end up getting beaten badly for the shallowest reasons. Perhaps this contributes to my love of hand to hand and weapons combat. Haha!
Things turned out better because of the Lord. He led me in His ways as I kept on reading and meditating on His Word. Had God not found me where I was before, I would not be surprised if I ended up in prison.

“Oh so that was the reason why you enjoy hand to hand and weapons combat! But thank God for leading that passion to something good!”
“What kind of legacy would you want to be remembered as Sean Si and about what you do?”
I would want to be remembered as someone who helped the world know more about the Lord. I hope that everything I do contributes to this. My writings, my book(s), my talks, podcasts and my support to the church.
“As an accomplished young man, do you still have any dream/s that you want to achieve in the future?”
Yes! A song album! That’s part of my bucket list 🙂
“Haha! I say, why not?! Nothing is impossible with the Lord, right? Maybe you can give us a sample of that talent at your next talk/s.”

“What advise can you give to people who are struggling to be more stable in their calling (both in their personal and their professional life)?”
Set the anchor of your life in the most unchanging foundation. That is God.
How you do this is by reading God’s Word and meditating on it as well as praying to Him daily. It doesn’t take much. Only a daily discipline.
“So inspiring, Sean! Thank you so much for encouraging us with your life and stories. I hope that more people can read about your journey through your book, and can learn from you through your talks.” 🙂
